Cattle Grid A common sight in Wales are structures called 'cattle grids' (Grid Gwartheg in Welsh). The point with these gate-like structures is that cars can pass through them (just drive over the rails), but cattle is averse to stepping over the thin grid. Thus, farmers can keep sheep and other animals confined without cumbersome swing gates.
